It's that time of year again where all of us college students are gearing up to go back to school, and I thought what better time to get back into the swing of blogging. After months of being tired- of either not knowing what to say or feeling like nothing I had to say actually mattered, I mustered up the courage and I am back. After a long break, I am sooo happy to getting back behind my keyboard and sharing what is on my heart with all of you. I have so many ideas, collaborations, and much more to share with you all!
I felt like this was a good post to come back off of my little hiatus with because for many of us black girls who find ourselves with a hand in every little campus student organization, community organizing group, or project, while trying to balance family, friends, and school- we get tired. We get tired of running around like chickens with our heads cut off, and we forget that the task of saving the world is not exactly our duty, and the things that once gave us joy seem to be the things that leave us drained. This is something that I believe we deal with when we enter college and something we deal with even as much more seasoned women.
As this new school year comes to start, I want to encourage you all that even though at times you may get tired, you may feel as though you are doing "the work" and it is going unseen, or it isn't making the impact you thought it would- it is okay. What you say has meaning, the work you are doing IS important, and it is OKAY to give yourself a pat on the back when you need it, BUT for the young black girl who finds herself with a big heart and an even bigger agenda to save the world, remember to do things that make you happy—that make you a better woman.
It is so easy to go on your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and judge and compare what you are doing to the others on your timeline. It is easy to accept all these positions and duties— thinking that all of these excessive things add value to who you are, and then next thing you know you can hardly hold your head above water.
So please try to remember like I had to;
it is okay to say no.
it is okay to get tired. you are not a machine.
it is okay to take a break sometimes & reassess some of the things you have going on; remember Rome was not built in a day.

P.S.: black girl you cannot save the world if you are dead.
